Method overview
How to use the kit correctly
- Collect a representative illuminating-paraffin sample using a safe, clean sampling process.
- Fill the clean cylinder sufficiently for the hydrometer to float freely.
- Lower the hydrometer carefully and allow it to settle without touching the cylinder wall.
- Read and record the observed value using the supplied method and applicable temperature guidance.
- Compare the result with the relevant current specification or escalate it for suitable analysis.
Interpretation limits
What the result can and cannot tell you
- A density reading does not identify the exact contaminant or cause of an abnormal result.
- Density alone does not prove that the product meets every applicable quality specification.
- Temperature, sample quality, equipment condition and reading technique affect the result.
- A material dispute or abnormal result may require controlled sampling and laboratory analysis.
